Sibiu is a city in central Romania, in the region of Transylvania, situated along the Cibin River. Founded in the 12th century by Transylvanian Saxons, Sibiu served at times as the capital of the Grand Principality of Transylvania and has retained its Germanic heritage. Its well-preserved medieval and baroque architecture, the legacy of Baron Samuel von Brukenthal, and a tradition of cosmopolitanism make it one of Romania’s most significant heritage sites. Recognized as a European Capital of Culture, Sibiu hosts numerous events, including the Sibiu International Theatre Festival, one of the largest of its kind in Europe.
